SupporterCompany I am dealing with to make a console for my 8HP conversions has just released a conversion kit for the D2a, so this for them is a 4.6, to the BMW M54.

Have asked the questions as to how this may differ for a RHD re steering box etc. but I must state that their version of the 4HP is the 24EH not 2 EH. That said if you were to go this way why would you not just keep the full drivetrain and go the 6HP or option up to the 8P.
The M54 was used un all BMW's including the x5, the specs and performance for the X5 with the 6HP - note the X5 is 2 tonnes.

I wondered if the mounts would be compatible with the M57 RHD, but I’ll be with its LHD design, they sat the motor too far to the RHS for it to work even if the mounts did work. An interesting conversion. Admittedly over the long weekend I was also wondering about the new 2.8 auto thats in the Landcruider 76 and 79 as a conversion.

SupporterOne issue there is that the air intake to the left rather than the right, but I suppose that there is room at the front to run piping, then there is the issue of electronics (which this conversion covers)... and Toyota tax. SubscriberBite your tongue with those evil thoughts, M57 would be a much better choice.
There is a video on youtube by Makher with 2 defender 90's drag racing, one with an M57 that puts out 900nm of torqueand the other an LS swap.

hehe, I have an M57 twin turbo with 6HP sitting on my garage floor for a conversion too.Bite your tongue with those evil thoughts, M57 would be a much better choice.

SupporterJordan got back to me regarding a RHD conversion,
"The M54 swap kit in a RHD would not need to run the accessory bracket, but would loose the a/c due to the steering box location"
That said, would assume that this is an issue for the M57 as well???

Its a really really tight fit with the M57 and requires the crankshaft (ie the whole motor) to be offset to the passengers side to make it fit if the A/C is retained.

SupporterSo, just thinking are there options for ACE to be retained or would an electric pump be required to keep this?
Workshop manual, Disco 2, Front Suspension, Description & Operation, Description - ACE, Page 60 - 13, or 1012 of 1783.
"The fluid flow varies with the engine speed and the rotational speed of the central shaft. The pressure felt at the actuator, created by the flow from the pump, is controlled by the pressure control valve in the valve block.
The pump has a displacement of 8.5 cm 3 /rev and an operational pressure of 135 bar (1958 lbf.in 2 ). The pump output flow ranges from 7.0 l/min (1.85 US Gallons/min) at 775 rev/min to 9.25 l/min (2.44 US Gallons/min) at 7625 rev/min."
So this pump would work as a substitute for these flow rates (not sure of the actual quality of this by the way only they meet the specifications somewhat without measure of the output pressure)

SupporterJust did a further search and this one comes in at 10l/m and 4.1 Bar versus the required 135 Bar of the standard pump, that ACE pump is some pump

Thats one of my issues as I want to retain everything. I chatted to Max Wiseman (his products are now sold via House of Torque) and he was looking at the same problem as people were converting ACE to regular antiroll bars. He also wanted the whole show in his D2. His thoughts are to run the ACE pump in place of the PAS pump and then convert to an electric PAS pump. The Astra pump seems to be the leading thoughtfor performance electric PAS pumps. There is no product that I'm aware of at this stage which will do this conversion of moving the ACE pump to the PAS pump location.
The A/C compressor is an interesting one also as it messes up the installation, some have made new slim mounts for the compressor so they can move the motor as far as possible to the drivers side but it is still fairly offset with an A/C compressor. Mahker manufacture their own mount to refit the original LR A/C compressor to the M57 as the gas fittings are consistent.
Actually, I did look into electrically driven AC compressors, I'd forgotten about this. The Tesla ones are not an option because the 10 billion volts they run at, but I did find 12 volt AC compressors. These look like a good option but they do chop through a lot of power. Fortunately the M57 alternator is about 180a I think it is, so they can probably support this as an option. I've never seen any comments on what an electric A/C compressors performance is like in comparison to a pump driven one.
