    Replace p15 with p10 td5???

I’ve had a bit of an upset in the disco and need to replace the motor. I have a 2004 d2a and it has had a run on event and no longer has compression in number 1.
I have an opportunity to buy an older td5 out of 2000 mdl so it’s the p10 motor. I know of some differences like pressure reg and fuel cooler, egr cooler but if there anything that would stop the swap?? Is it an easy swap over?? Hooding someone might of done this already and could share some wisdom.
    Thanks in advance
    Jim

The mechanical swap is straight forward, let the cooling system as it is just connect the hoses to the engine's coolant elbow and pump and if you use a complete engine you'll have to remap your ECU for Eu2, set the throttle to 2 track with nanocom or similar and addapt a 3 wire AAP(airbox) sensor with the proper connector but IMO better put into the 10P your green top injectors in the same order then all you need is a 10P FPR cos the 15P FPR does not fit. IIRC that's all

Is leaked fuel into the sump I believe via a crack in the head where the injectors seat. It filled over a week and once the level reached a certain point it just started running on the oil/diesel in the sump. Managed to stop it fairly quickly but not quick enough as I have no compression in #1.

Put it in. It will fit. Change over the external different parts. You will need the 10p fuel pressure regulator. The timing chain is bigger on the 15p. This is to operate the green top injectors as they run higher injection pressure. Just leave the blue/black top injectors in it
It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power

How comes that it's one part number for all then? e.g Timing Chain Kit Td5 (FAI) LHA000030 TCK292 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. ... IMO the higher injection pressure is the engine management's business, the green top injectors are built internally as to handle that, i fitted green top injectors into 10P engine myself especially to not change/remap the ECU and AAP sensor and they worked without probs so i think that you are wrong with your statement

No, you're wrong. The part number for EU2 is LXB100090 and for EU3 is LHA000030. It's also in the work shop manual, to quote Rave
" to cope with higher injection load of the EU3 engine, the timing drive between the camshaft and crankshaft has been upgraded. This requires a thicker chain links to be used. Therefore, the individual pre EU3 and EU3 components are not interchangeable"

This is straight out of rave

"EU2 has blue links and EU3 has bronze links."

With the longer stroke on the green top injectors, the cam is different, the rocker shaft is different and even the chain guides are different due to different geometry

Make sure you get the airbox lid and the sensor in it. It's different between the pre/post facelifts engines. Not too expensive if you need to buy them new tho.

Thanks for all the info guys. Sounds very possible then. I’m keen to keep this disco going as I’ve had it for about 15 years and love it.
One more question, if I put in the ecu out of the 10p motor to suit its injectors then does that at all affect my key fobs and security? Are they linked to the ecu or do they have a different module?
    Many thanks jim

If you fit the 10P's ECU you have to make it learn the security code with nanocom or similar as the engine to not be immobilised, the fobs are not affected, they will still lock/unlock and manage the alarm but the engine will not run if the ECU didn learn the code, as mentioned before you have to fit a Eu2 AAP sensor(or whole lid) + the proper 3 pin connector as the 4'th wire with the AAT input from Eu3 to be left unused so get that connector from the donor vehicle as well and if you end up with this setup i'll tell you how to connect the wires... you can sell the green top injectors after that for decent price.... and the NNN ECU if you dont want to remap it. Good luck
