    Discovery 2 CDL

    Discovery 2 CDL
Need assistance in trying to locate issue with locking error signal. Nanacom is showing both drivers and passenger (all other 3) as open, only bonnet closed so therefore giving beep when either locking with remote or key. Seems BCM is not receiving the 2 separate door signals. After locking each door separately and finally drivers door with key. Left it a few days and it unlocked and then locked again with remote with no error, opened a door and error returned, that happened on 2 occassions but can’t get it to repeat something telling me it’s not the actuators. Also had a small leak passenger side corner of screen and so removed the trim to locate and repair leak, noticed drops of water on lower footwell connectors, so have had all apart sprayed with contact cleaner but no joy, also did same with BCM connectors

    Any help would be appreciated

Hi, listen with stethoscope or your ear on the doors close to the actuators if you hear any sound when you lock/unlock with the fob or dash switch... if you do the electronic side is ok and the actuators are gone... if complete silence we'll speak then

P.S. Nanocom would not know which door except the driver's is open or closed. It can't make a difference between the status of the tail door or any of the other 3 doors(passenger + 2 rears) cos all theyr's monitoring switch signals are joining into one wire which goes to the BCU as there are only two circuits for doors open/closed status: 1/driver's door, 2/all the others

Thanks for replying, I was hoping you would see the post as I know you are very knowledgeable

Checked as you suggested, and No, there is no activity at all on any of the actuators,

I am aware of the combined signal with the 4 other actuators, plus the 1 for the drivers door.

On locking each door manually, and finally drivers door with key, it will unlock all with remote. As mentioned in post Nanacom is reading both door signals as open, bonnet as closed , checked bonnet on open and Nanacom

From inside with all doors closed and unlocked, the dash switch locks all except Drivers door, unplugged drivers door actuator. Checked with Nanocom and still shows drivers door switch as open

Yes, the driver's door is a kind of a "gateway" for all so if that one's monitoring switch is faulty the others will not work as well... just confirm it appears open even if it was locked with the key ?...how skilled are you with electronics on a scale from 1 to 10? can you work based on diagrams?

I have checked drivers door with actuator unplugged, and still showed as open

from inside locked all other 4 with panel switch, drivers door actuator plugged in and locked with key, and still shows both switches as open

Probably a 7, I do have a copy of Rave also

In RAVE you have Electrical library, go to connector view, see C0733, it used to suffer from corrosion if nothing visible check continuity to earth with actuator unplugged in pin 1(purple/white wire) if no earth means that the BCU is faulty, if you get earth it might be a short in the wiring but the BCU is not ruled out cos the problem can still be within it, check if the loom is not chafed where it passes between body and door.

You can check continuity to earth in the actuator's plug C0441 pin 6 (purple/white wire) first cos earth there means open door input as the switch is N/O with closed door and it's supposed to close to earth when the door is opened for the BCU to know that

In addendum for the above if you get continuity to earth in the actuator's plug you'll have to get to the BCU's C0660 unplug it and check in pin 17(same colour wire), if no earth on that wire unplugged at the door too then the BCU is gone but if it's closed to earth there is a short to earth on that path

*** Never unplug the BCU without disconncting the battery negative lead first and reconnect only after the BCU was plugged back
