No cabin filter on the D2.
I usually haunt the Series One forum, but I thought it might see if any of you Disco II fans might have some ideas. I wonder if any of you have had this problem. I recently didn't use my 8/03 build V8 Discovery II that was left outside for a week. After jumping in and driving off, I noticed a smell from the vents like stale garden cilppings that aggravated my asthma and made me cough. I noticed that the open cell foam strip was all but gone and obviously wasn't doing any filtering.
Does this model have a replaceable cabin filter like some of the other Land/Range Rover models or just the foam strip? If not, any ideas on how to go about cleaning out the AC blower fan, vents and related parts without having to pull the whole dash apart?
I have had a lot experience with the early Series Ones but I have a lot to learn about this model, although my Nanocom has helped me cope with the usual faults including the 3 Amigos and Bosch engine management issues.

The foam strip is your lot. But the fan is not a big job at all. Have a peruse of this.
Mine was absolutely full.... with leaves. Others haven't been so lucky ( guess that depends on your viewpoint ) and have found thankfully deceased rodents in there.

You will also need to check that the plenum under that foam strip is draining properly through the holes at either end.

Are you sure it's coming from the vents, and not wet carpet?

After removing the plenum on mine, the duct through to fan (circled) was able to be cleaned of leaf matter that had accumulated due to a split plenum. The area under the plenum drains into the inner wings through a hole either end, I cleaned a bunch of detritus out of there also.

Thanks everyone for your assistance. I'll follow your collective advice and helpful suggestions. I reckon that Iv'e got some leaves and dead insects etc clogging up the system. I'll also check that the drain pipe isn't blocked. I'll head down to the local Clark Rubber shop and see if I can find a strip of open cell foam to replace the missing filter strip.
Hopefully that will keep things clean. Thanks again! 5380.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
