Rebuilding a TD5

Well, I have checked blowby myself, I pretty much have my own steam train [emoji28] it wasn't like this a few months ago.
The local landie mechanic here is very well respected and very very good :)
I just need the old girl to last a few months, so I can save up. I will also check all the things mentioned here :) thankyou everyone [emoji16] its done over 440000kms. I'm not sure if there was any lasting internal damage from the timing gear explosion. I've done a few oil changes since incase any metal floating around in there.

There are engines out there. One with 220k for $1500. It is in NSW, in Narrandera Just to the east of a place called Grong Grong, funnily enough the name of a band in Adelaide in the early 80s
Would Go Fund me be viable?

I can recall THE definitive TD5 rebuild documented on AULRO with all the pics.

It was by P Simpson and it would've been more than 10 rears ago. Unforgettable.

Who is going to be the first to find it?

Alls good, I just got really really lucky and hit it pretty much straight away. Just good luck. I actually didn't realise I had it originally because I thought it was an attached doc, and then I reread your post.

I could remember it was Pete Simson and there was a number after his abbreviated user name and searched for the post but couldn't find it.

There are quite a lot of erudite members on this forum so the logical thing was to throw this out as a kinda contest gimmick ato get the result.

I dunno if people realise there are different timing chains for variants of TD5's, I dunno if there are different injectors involved either, but if there is one thing that was ever going to get someone to have a crack at it then that whole post is it.

You're right, there were a lot parts changed with the updated Td5. Head, tapper cover, Fuel pressure regulator, injectors, EGR, turbo down pipe, intercooler are a few others. I'm not sure what else there was.

Maybe all that stuff needs to be in the suggested item in the TGO section. I did notice one guru did caught short recently re: the timing chain changes. He still gets mega respect though.

I'm involved / overseeing the development of a 'catalogue' that has absolutely nothing to do with cars atm. The concept to me is for a catalogue of 'access to tools' along the lines of the Whole Earth Catalogue from the 70's.

A couple of uni graduates spotted two evolutions of hard copies of this in my bookshelves and wanted to get them out to have a look and actually handle them.It was something they'd read about and respected the concept.

Sure I said, but why? They said they'd never seen physical samples of this revolutionary concept, which in a lot of ways was the precursor to the concept of the internet.
