    Splitting td5 power steering pump

Hey guys have searched high and low but haven’t found the answer

Attempting to refurb my pas pump that Was leaking from the gasket , got a kit on the way and have cleaned the pump up and taken out the four bolts but not sure how to then split the pump in half? Need to take off the piece that engages with the water pump but stumped how to do so

Any intel would be much appreciated! I’ll get a pic in the morn if it’s unclear , pumps out In the garage

    Cheers

It looks like a press fit, but I'm not sure how you would press it out without risking the body half.

I have a PAS pump here that looked like it has the dog pressed onto a splined pump shaft and to be quite honest I wasn't at all convinced by it and so replaced it with one that looked like a proper press fit such as the one you've photographed.
    Cheers

Couple of years ago now but as I remember it was simply pressing out the shaft (we used a bolt on the press against the shaft) in the middle of the coupling and it came out very easily. Was hoping at the time that we just remove the coupling as have an electric water pump but we had to resit the coupling for integrity.

Was looking up the repair kit, sure it was a yellow rubber gasket we put in, and came across this - Disco 2 - TD5 power steering pump rebuild | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum - will keep looking for the repair kit now.

well i kooked it, in tapping out the spindle i disfigured a tiny little dowel pin that sits half in the spindle half in the gear piece. tiny little thing with a double taper (cant get a pic as camera wont focus its that small haha)

have ordered a hobourn pump from island4x4, probabaly should have just done this from the jump but was keen for a tinker!

so my advice if anyone attempts this is use a press as the smooth motion of this i imagine would preserve the dowel pin

will pick up a pump off a wreck if one comes up in the future and attempt a rebuild but for now, to the 'broken but potentially fixable' box on the shelf it goes
