I think that you need to go genuine with both the gasket and the isolaters.
Even with genuine it's not a great setup.
Recently I've been using aviation form-a-gasket, painted both sides and fitted it. I wouldn't use any kind of RTV, at best you make a mess outside, and a terrible mess inside for the next guy to get off (usually you again).
The aviation stuff makes a mess, wear rubber gloves ... But you can clean up the outside of the engine when you finish with isopropyl alcohol, methylated spirits or even turps.
I really should redesign it... In my spare time.
