    Late EU2 TD5 TCU/TCM

    Hi,

I'm currently looking for a transmission controller for the above listed Discovery 2.

It will have IGG000060 written on the top cover along with several other part numbers.

I think it was used from VIN 1A719640.

The same controller from the EU3 TD5 is IGG000070, but I'm not looking for that one.

If anyone can help, please let me know.

    Cheers
    James

I have a spare here somewhere. I'll have a look soon. Should be EU2, but no promises.

    Hi John,

There are a number of different versions of TCU for the EU2, I've got most but not the IGG000060.

    No, not that one.

    They are pretty common.

    That's an early EU2 TD5.

Various updates were released along the way, the IGG000060 being the last released.
Only one was released for the EU3- IGG000070.

From my other thread, I finally found my controller.

As far as I know, this could be original for the 02(affectionately called ICY due to number plate).
I have a very strong suspicion tho, that it may have been swapped out.

Many clues lead me to think that ICY had been dunked at some point in it's life by a previous owner, got watery mud contaminated and ECUs/BCUs/TCUs/and whatever other electronics device may have been swapped out to get it going again.

So there is no guarantee that this is the original TCU for ICY the '02.

My memory served me badly in that I thought I wrote the blue paint pen markings on it. I recall they were there, but when I swapped it out for the V8 controller, I marked it in white paint pen ... ie. 02 TD5. And I think marked the one in ICY now with white marker as 99 V8(which it is).

So I dunno is IGG 100010 is from an 02 TD5 or what, just that it was in the car and worked fine, other than the ECU has been mapped, and that for a torquey engine it hold gear for wayyy too long. V8 TCU solved that, but did introduce other unwanted behaviour that was since fixed thanks to James.

my gut feel is that some previous owner has swapped it, due to the blue marker. What JLDII, or JLD11 means, is anyones guess. but has the look and feel of a wreckers markings.

For James, is that a IGG number a common part?

The IGG100010 was factory fitted to '99 - 01 MYs(from ...XA232917 to ...1A719639 according to the parts catalog
... so if your vehicle's VIN ends with 1A and a smaller number than 719639 means it's original, the next TCM in order of VIN is IGG000060

That's exactly the info I have as well.

So a IGG100010 would have been fitted to EU2 TD5s, until it was replaced by the final revision IGG000060.

However, I'm thinking I have seen the IGG100010 in EU3s before, but they shouldn't be.

    Yep, super common.

It replaced the very early unit marked UHC100250.

In some ways it's possibly the pick of them.

That's not a recommendation, but you will have better cruise control lockup behaviour.

The IGG000060 I'm chasing is simply because I've never seen one on the flesh.

I would like the firmware from it for my library.

It's a bit strange though cos IGG000060 seems to be a p/n supersession for the 100010 on Eu2 engines even thought it appears as "from VIN 1A719640" while there is the 000070 which is clearely listed as for Eu3 engines but starting from the same VIN as the 000060 ... see here Genuine Ecu-gearbox & Transfer Box (automatic Transmission) For Land Rover Discovery 2 1998 - 2004 Classic (l318) | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts

i think that's because in 2001 was the transition from Eu2 to Eu3 and there were both types around that VIN limit, at that time there were some stsrange "hybrids" which had 15P engines set from factory to 2 track throtte and the 3 wire AAP sensor.
