Question Yet another 3 Amigos Thread

    Hello guys!

I am Marco, a mechanic and Disco 2 owner from Germany.

Forums related to Land Rovers are nearly dead over here, most Facebook groups are flooded by bots and this Forum kept popping up when I researched my problem. So I hope you can help me

I bought a 2003 Disco 2 a few month back which had a problem with the 3 Amigos lights coming on every ~5 start up.
I had to do a few maintance repairs light the lower front balljoints, where I removed the front ABS Sensors from the hub (shouldn't have done that).

When I drove it after, the ABS/TC/HDC and handbrake lights came on.

    A quick scan showed:
    • "46 - Sensor front left, signal too low, sporadically"
    • "114 - Shuttle Valve, electric fault, sporadically"

I cleared the codes and went for a drive with live data. Sesnors showed 2,2V on all fours and the speed was equal while going straight down the road. The lights showed up again after I drove the first turn on a parking lot.

    Scan showed:
    • "47 - Sensor rear right, signal too low, sporadically"

This kept popping up again after several cleared codes and drives.

Things I tried to fix the problem:
    • Did the Shuttle-Valve-Mod
    • Looked at the ABS ECU behind the glovebox
    • Opened & looked at every ABS Sensor Plug
    • Replaced the rear right wheel bearing/sensor with a new one from "Febi-Bilstein" which is known to have the correct teeth count
    • Replaced the rear left wheel bearing/sensor with a new one from "Febi-Bilstein" after I read a thread in this forum, which had the exact problem I do and it did the trick replacing both wheelbearing on one axle

I will replace both front wheelbearings/sensors as well, since I already have them here.

What bugs me is, the front left fault-code never showed up again, after I cleared the codes the first time(?)

Any ideas before I start measuring every wires related to the ABS sensors?

Thank you in advance, really appreciate your help!

Hi, don't bother with that front left code cos it's possible that it was hystorical in the ECU memory and maybe the PO fixed the fault but didnt clear the code while the 3 amigos were first triggered by the SVS and the rear sensor fault popped up after that coincidentally....if the rear sensor code keeps coming on after you replaced the hub+sensor the probem is only on that path, a missballance in inputs between axles or on the same axle while stationary inputs are all within limits would trigger erratic TC activity not the amigos.

the rear sensors are not hardwired from factory, the circuit goes through that grey connector near the fusebox(C0378/0392) so check that too cos it used to be full of muck

    Appreciate the help @sierrafery

I did however change both front hubs/sensors yesterday and it solved the problem. I assume that the Delphi diagnostics tool wasn't able to read the codes correctly (there are a few threads on here mentioning reading problems with the old Land Rover ECU's) and it was indeed the front left sensor. All 4 hubs felt good and had no play in them.

It should be noted that I did use the same part from the same manufacturar for all 4 new hubs, which seems to be important (some thread on here as well).

Hope this helps someone in the future!
