The biggest advantage is the spring effect which compensates for thermal expansion on the clip, hose and nipple. A worm drive will generally tear up the rubber over a period of time.
It has gotten to a point where I now have a box of those clips, and I replace worm drives whenever I have one off. The other clip I’ve grown to love is the oetiker. Same deal, the spring action and smooth band is better for the hose, although they are a single use.
Worm drive clamps are the JBweld of the clamp world. Universal, jack of all trades a master of none.
Agree with all of that. But I thought there were specialised clamps for silicon. I wouldn't use worm drive, as they tend to cut the hoses, PITA.
