No, the ACE should be ok. There are a few people these days running over that with ACE and no problems. If it gets unsettled after turn in or in the middle of corners, then you can lengthen the rear down links.
Ok quick question reguarding lifting a TD5 manual Disco.
With ACE, is it affected by lift at all??
3" spring lift will clear 33s with slight rubbing??
AMV CDL kit is $800 fitted reasonable price??
Sorry I am a newbie when it comes to d2s and I think having radius arms front and rear, 3" spring would be max.
This is not my vehicle, I am gathering this info for a couple of family friends whom both own a 99 TD5 Disco. Once I have the info I will be ordering springs and shocks for them and hopefully they enjoy their Land Rover experience (neither of these guys are/where lr enthusiast).
Cheers

If it helps Grimace, my '99 TD5 Manual D2 with ACE has 2" raised king springs on 33" Silverstone MT117 Sports and I get slight rubbing at full lock and compression. Also have longer rear shocks (630mm open eye to eye) and have not yet lengthened brake and abs lines although modified the mount in the wheel arch slightly. Have a couple of washers in the steering stops though.
Also have the AMV CDL kit which has worked excellently over the past couple of years. I would also fit a toggle switch to allow to to fool the computer, as if you turn the ignition off with the CDL engaged and turn the car back on again, you will have no ABS or TC (handy though if you want to turn it off for sand or whatever)......just ask Bolts how annoying this is though when you want TC on. I think I paid around $650 ish fitted for just my kit through Rick's, switch was extra though and fitted later down the track.
Happy for you and your friends to take a look over/borrow my truck any time as I also have (if they are considering being bitten by the modification bug);
Truspeed speedo correction unit
Front and rear maxi lockers
4.11 diff gears (essential I would suggest with the manuals running anything bigger than 32" tyres)
Modified tails shafts
Dual battery system
Extra 12v points in rear
Milford cargo barrier
Boost gauge
EGT gauge
EGR bypass kit
BD Remapped ECU (non flashable which the '99's are)
Straight through exhaust, etc etc etc.
The list goes on but if they are serious about modifying a D2 here on the coast, I could tell them a million things to think about that I would have done differently.
My truck sits on my drive everyday so happy if you want to borrow it to take a closer look......if you can excuse the odd dent here and there
P.S. Get them out on some club trips too eh!!
Aye, Mick
P.P.S. Let me know where you are ordering 3" springs from as I was considering these for mine too....once I had done my home work.
I should answer a bit better.
ACE is fine and should be ok with 3" lift depending on the length of the shocks that are used. The rear will max out with the short down links and the front will have the ram contact the panhard mount. Operation wise it is all ok.
3" springs... it will really depend more on the fully compressed position than the static ride height which is a key point and mostly overlooked. It will also depend on which tyre and tyre size is being run. With 3" lift 255/85 will probably be ok, as with Simex 33x10.5. Wider will probably rub. Doing 3" and 33's is a hell of a lot more time, effort and sorting in comparison to most 2" lifts and running 32's (265/75-16) which most people run.
I would also recommend sidesteping the AMV unit which is prone to failure with age. The trend now is towards retrofitting the D2 MY03 update transfer lever setup which can be bought new through aftermarket suppliers. It's a full remote cable setup as fitted by the factory.

I fitted the unit slunnie is talking about, i actually got it from AMV, from there 2nd hand parts yard for $375.
Ashcrofts in the UK have them for around $700 AU delivered and you can find fitting instruction in the projects and tutorials section that i posted.
Ritters have 2nd hand ones as well as there own version for around $600 or $650.
Try a wrecker first like AMV or Ritters or Land Vehicle Spares, even your local Landy wrecker.
Grimace, 255/85/16s won't rub with a 3" lift.
If you get the wanders or mid corner turn in, either get QT services crancked radius arms (new product for the D2) or modify your driving style

Thanks to all whom have replied.
MickG I already mentioned alot of stuff to them about your vehicle, I spent about an hour two days ago just searching through your old posts trying to get an idea of the entire setup, and your reply in this thread topped it all of nicely, cheers mate.
The main reason I looked at your post is cause I currently run the same tyres you run and they both are very interested in them aswell.
Now I just need to do abit further research on the possible hiccup of a 3" spring lift (of which I can't see there being anything too drastic, whats an extra 24.5mm)
Again thanks to all replys peeps much appreciated.
