    long range tanks

    Hey All

I am looking at getting a long range tank fitted for my Simpson trip this year and was wondering what experiences people have had with the various brands?

I have heard to stay away from Bruce Davis tanks as the build quality is indifferent and that Long Ranger and LRA are both decent tanks. I was considering getting the 150L replacement tank from LRA (as they are in Lilydale and that’s where I work) but have heard of problems with the mounts.

    What do people think/recommend?

    Cheers

Personally l wouldn't bother with long range tanks and just carry jerry cans

Put the $1000 plus for long range tanks to some other toy for the vehicle or trip

Thanks mate, but I dont want all that weight on the roof and I wont carry it inside. Only so much room in a Disco. Plus I plan on doing a fair few longer trips.

I've been looking at this (think I also have a post on the topic). I had Long Ranger in my last Disco and after checking out the options, quality etc last week, I'll be putting the same in my D2. The only thing I most likely won't do this time is also put in the 30L side tank but will just run the oversized main one.

As for the LRA 150L, I suspect it will knock the clearence under the rear down a bit.

I thought about carrying Jerry cans on the camper trailer, when I get it, but that adds weight there and also you don't want to be stopping and refilling to often in dusty conditions.

They're not hard to fit, but part of it is a 2 person job and a trolley jack is very handy.

I don't think that Bruce Davis does long range tanks. Brown Davis would be fitting though.

Long ranger is the best value for money for the D1 disco and at 130 odd litres I think they quoted me (including delivery) $1036 and then I had to fit.
I have heard there instructions are clear and easy to follow

That was my thought as well (which I've expressed here before) but now I'm looking at a LR tank as I want to carry around 200 litres (so I'll still be stuck with Jerry cans)

Where are you going to go to be 650k's from fuel?

My '98 Tdi has 90 litres standard, plus 2 jerry cans (extra 40 kgs'ish).

To me, I have a range of 1300 kms before I need fuel!

Do you really need long range tanks?

    Cheers

I have a long ranger fitted, about 135 litres - was already in the car so no cost to me.
My only quibble is that I drive 400kms before the gauge moves. Shame they can't be recalibrated so full is full and half is half etc. I really ought to drain it when the low fuel light comes on, as I have no idea how much is actually left in it when it comes on.
At a guess I'd say I'd get maybe 1200 or 1300kms out of it if I ran it dry...
