    Help : Flood Damaged Disc

    Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and would like advise/input on the following

I have a chance of purchasing a written off 2001 SE S2 Disco auto TD5 at around $5000 but, and a big but, is that it is flood damaged. I believe up to the door sills, could have been in the water a couple of days. I think the flood was June07, so it's sat for 7or8 months.

The vehicle, I believe is registerable, so therefore must be road worthy!

If I get it I intend to strip the inside out, clean and WD40, refit inside etc. I need a project to stop me getting older!

Friends say I would be mad, others say would not touch it with a bargepole!

    Regards and thanks

    Timeless

Would apprietiate thoughts for experienced Land Rover group and Land rover lovers.

    Does it run/drive etc. o.k?

Or, a better question is; what doesn't it do?

    Cheers

Having lived through the floods and own a TD5 auto D2, if it isn't a goer and you cannot strip and sell it, I wouldn't touch it with your barge pole. If the engine is fine and has not drank H20 or depending on where it was parked in the floods H20 + NACL it may be expensive to remedy but nothing is impossible with the right amount of cash.

Look at the pictures in the following thread before making your decision

    Thanks for responses

Yes it does drive and has a road worthy certificate, as far as I know at this stage! So therefore I assume that most of the mechanics are working.

When the floods hit it was in a car park, parked, and it was just H2O.

I am travlling to look at the vehicle next week so will know more then.

    Again thanks

Make sure that the vehicle is not a Statutory Write off. This will cause difficulties getting the vehicle re-registered particularly in NSW. A repairable write off is better but both require you to jump through government hoops.

If it is there should be a chisel mark across the VIN plate.

Or check with the WOVR Written-off vehicles

if it was only fresh water, providing its had a full demothball procedure (major service + some) carried out on the running gear, it wasnt under for more than a couple of days and its not on the stat write off list ID be very tempted. Id be very tempted even if it was a running write off as the donk and brain are worth about that much.

Be very very careful about the auto they do not like any water ingress.... ask george130.

The flooded areas were all up and down the coastline. The bottom of my street was flooded 3km's away from the lake, thats just my immediate area, down the coast it was bad, how can you determine what was saltwater and what wasn't in them scenerios?
