    Replacement Keys for D2

Does anyone know if there is an alternative to the LR price ($450) for a replacement key?

I only have one key and thought it would be nice to get a second! Until I was told the price and maybe need to think again!

you can buy the new key blank,,
and you can get it cut,,

and you can buy the new keyfob,,
and stick the new key in it,,

but getting the keyfob coded to your car is the problem,,,

did you get the key tags with the car?

Key tags(my wording) are like a wide cable tie with a bar code. This bar code is proof of ownership of the keys to a D2. The bar code also allows a new keyfob to be correctly coded.

Timeless, look among your owner's manual, service book, etc. that came with the car. My key tags (I assume that's what they are) were taped to the inside back cover of the service book.

This must be standard LR procedure

    Replacement D2 Key

    Timeless,

Any new fob and key blank must come with 2 bar codes on it. The upper bar code is 18 digits long and the lower is 17 digits long. With any replacement key fob you'll need to get a dealer or someone with Testbook, Rovacom or Autologic to program the new fob into the car's BCU.

I understand it is also possible to move a fob from one vehicle to another by recording the 18 digit bar code and the synchronisation code (rolling code) recorded in the donor car's BCU and entering it into your car's BCU, you can then just replace the key blade with a new blank cut to the vehicle.

Unfortunately, the least risky approach is a new key & fob, that said, I too need another key for a spare and did some research about 6 weeks ago (so these prices are slightly out of date)

    Pricing:
    Lance Dixon: $350 key + $66-$130 for programming + $30 cutting = say $446 to $510
    AMV: $334 key and programming + $30 cutting = $364
Ebay: $121 key from US (for LHD!!) + $44 shipping + programming and cutting (say $130) = $295 but not guaranteed to work
British 4WD: $266.85 key only + shipping and programming and cutting
Remote Key.co.uk: $230 key only + shipping and programming and cutting

N.B. if doing a web search, Land Rover remote key fobs are sometimes referred to as Land Rover plips, Land Rover zappers, remotes, remote plips or remote zappers.

Hope this helps, by the way, I have not bought my replacement key as yet.

and as all D2 owners know,, you should replace the fob battery every couple of years,,
for $2 or $3 its not worth the risk,,

anyone unlocked a d2 manually lately?
