I guess that depends on what you want to do with it or want to get out of it...

Un poof it, that's a hard one. Maybe consider fitting a snorkel, there's the benefit of cleaner air & an increased wading depth. Makes the D2 look more rugged.

A functioning CDL would be my first choice!!!!
    Lots of reasons!!!
The front tailshaft unis fail,if you cant lock your CDL you is going nowhere once you remove the shaft.
Once the 3 amigos are on your TC is disabled you effectively are stuck to no off-roading.
THEY REALLY GO WELL WITH THE CDL LOCKED AND TC WORKING!!!!!
When you need new tyres, upgrade to 265/75s or 235/85s AT or MT depending on your usage.
And to finish it off 2" lift and new shocks.
    Thats a decent start

a bull bar and snorkle are only fluff,,,
    if you dont use them,,

but the simplest way to toughen-up a D2.

Like Slunnie says what do you want to get out of it

    A good start is a 2"lift and a set of 265/75/16s
Then it definately looks the part
without giving to much of a ankfacter wanabee lookatmoi kimmy
If you have ACE the lift and tyres wont change the driveability of the thing
If not it will still drive well and have greater clearance and look the part

Assuming you have the CDL internals but simply no way of activating it from in the cab, you can fit an electronically activated one for around $600-$700. I have an AMV kit and it works very well. I have heard though that these can fail (as actually happened over the weekend with another guy in our club with the same kit as mine - his stuck on so he had to drive home with his CDL on) The other alternative is to fit the machanical assembly as found in the D1's and later D2 models, which seems to be the best way to go in terms of reliability, not sure on price though.

If you do fit the electronic version, then I would strongly suggest also fitting a switch which allows to to fool the car into thinking the CDL is off. Reason being, if you turn the car off and back on again with the CDL engaged, you loose ABS, TC & HDC. The only way to get them back on is to phisically have the CDL disengaged and turn your car off and on again. Sometimes this is not easy in tight confined spaces. With the switch you can leave your CDL engaged the whole time you are off road and if you do turn the car off you simply flick the switch when you want it back on again and you remain with TC, ABS & HDC.

Long winded answer sorry, but hope this helps.

    Aye, Mick

Oh and yes, the CDL is probably the first thing I would do as combined with TC they go very well.

    Hi Dan

My kit was bought through and fitted by Rick's 4x4 on the Gold Coast. It's the AMV kit which you can probably buy direct and fit yourself if you know what you are doing.

Couple of pics attached. I have set mine up for mainly some relatively rough terrain hence all the maxi gear and bar work and not so much for touring. Plus it is not a daily driver so it stays with the 33" tyres on etc. I you are not going to be off road often or may just use it for occasional beach, light off roading then the CDL is probably the only mod you will need. But then it's down to personal choice and the size of your wallet

Let me know if you want any more info, aye, Mick
