Can only buy the key itself, not like the P38. Maybe drop into a wrecker & see if u can get a plastic cover & swap the key blade over.![]()
Has anyone tried to replace the key pads on the D2 key yet? Abt to buy a car that has the pads worn through so badly that it doesn't unlock anymore. I am wondering if it's a $450 new key situation, or is it like the P38A where you can buy replacement pads? Thx, Phil.

Have tried a wrecker but they reckon they don't get keys with the cars they get from auctions etc. I'll keep trying as I have fixed the key by covering the button area with duct tapecutting it to fit, then adding another layer over the whoile key face. I also found some sheets of spare pre-cut alarm pad buttons for the house alarm and stuck those on so the press button areas have enough flex but don't deteriorate too quickly. Looks dodgy as hell but will do for a spare key until I can replace the casing. Oh, and put in fresh remote batteries while I was there.
If you only need the plastic fob part, you could buy something like this.
eBay Motors: LAND ROVER DISCOVERY REMOTE KEY KEYLESS (item 190211031417 end time Apr-06-08 19:02:32 PDT).
You don't need to spend the $450 unless you're getting a new key complete with blank key, key cutting and fob programming.
Now why didn't I think of that?? Thanks for that link - as I have discovered, that is all I need - the plastic casing. If you only need the plastic fob part, you could buy something like this.

I reckon there will be a good business in new replacement casings in years to come (if they all deteriorate like mine has. The electronics work perfectly, but becasue the button press didn't work the previous owner thought it was broken.
