think you might be a bit disappointed by the offroad performance of an unmodified D2 c.f. an unmodified D3...but that's what mods are for![]()
Well as you know I picked up the D2 last Thursday and have already done over 1000kms. Going from a HSE V8 D3 to a 03 D2 S model hasn't been as difficult as I imagined. First and foremost is the fuel economy, I have worked out that for my $1.00 that I spend on fuel I get an extra 2.5kms with the diesel. I did a 280km round trip yesterday, put it in cruise control and off we went, vehicle performed excellently. I filled up at 760kms to the tank but it would have done easily 800kms+ but being first fill up wanted to be on the safe side.
Yeah I kinda miss some of the bells and whistles, but once new bells and whistles are added ie mods it will be a different kettle of fish. Using a street directory is a pain, but soon hope to have a GPS in the car, couple of other things like decent cup holders would be good, and a couple of niggly things that will be done under warranty ie aircon doesnt seem cold enough and the DVD player seems to be on the blink but that is getting fixed tomorrow.
Only other thing and probably the difference between air suspension and coils perhaps is that on some roads the steering gets a little jittery and the ride a little rough, but all in all am very happy with it. Love the colour and look of the vehicle and overall ride is excellent. Just hanging to test it out off road,

Always looking for creative new ways to get bogged... :whistling:
76 RR...sold coz fuel was expensive at 70c/l
93 200 Tdi Disco...old faithful...sold to make way for...
99 Td5 Disco ACE...nice drive...hopefully reliable...
Great news Stevo......for your info, I reckon that when your fuel light comes, you could get another 80 100k's out of the tank at most......this is based on my fuel consumption when I got mine although mine is a manual.
As for steering being jittery, could be front shocks or steering dampner. I have an Old Man Emu steering dampner you can throug on to see if it makes a difference. Even you can fit it as it is 2 bolts and it's onAlso got the OME 2" springs that you are welcome to fit to see how they go......call me and i'll chat more about it.
As for being dissapointed off road, I strongly beg to differ. Agree the D3 is a superb off road car indeed, but a D2 with TC and CDL can go very well off road. Driven properly they are extremely capable beasts.
