    Disco 2 accessories -questions/opinions

    Hey there guys.

I have a disco 2 TD5 and I'm chasing some side steps. Has anyone had any of the aftermarket or recommend any? Do these also act as rock sliders?

I'm also looking for a spare set of rims (for muddies) to change from the town wheels...

As I'm new to the world of 4x4, tyres are an unknown. My boss has a Sorento with Maxxis on and they are noisy - getting noisier with the more kms traveled.
So I'm a little weiry of them.....anyone know of a good alround 'town' tyre?

Also anyone suggest methods to mount recovery hooks to the front of the vehicle?

    Thanks.

If you want rock sliders, then 4x4Intellignece are about to run a D2 batch. These are pretty good, but you may want to contact them fairly quickly if thats what you want.

Rims, check ebay. Disco2 or Rangie P38a rims are interchangable and sell for between 100-150ea in 7 and 8" widths. My last set of 16x8's cost me $500 for 4 and then I sold off the near new tyres for $250.

It depends on what you want the tyre to do if its second set, but I think that you'll generally find that the better the tyre is offroad the noiser it will be.

Recovery points... I use the ARB winch bar. I still think this is the strongest setup - check it does have the rings though, and as with any recovery point just don't be silly with it. The only other front recovery points that I've seen and like are the ones sold by Davis Performance Landys in Annangrove Sydney.

    D2 steel wheels

Can someone confirm that any D2 steel wheels will fit my 2000 TD5 (buying two with tyres as spares for a desert trip). Any dramas running a steel and alloy wheel on the same axle for recovery purposes? The TD5 has the standard factory alloys. Tx.

Thats no problem. There are wheel nuts for the steel wheels, and the D2 did come from the factory in very limited numbers. As I understand it, the alloy wheels wheel nuts will suit the steels wheels also, but they just look really silly.

Yes the alloy wheel nuts do fit the steels and yes they do look pretty silly. From memory when I fitted my steels, I sourced steel wheel nuts for around $4-$5 p/nut. Intersting point as well with the steel wheels and steel wheel nuts, the thread on the hub does not go all the way through the nut due to it being shorter to allow for the alloy wheel I assume.......looks kind of worrying but it very safe I'm assured.

As for recovery points, I have welded plate steel to the front of my ARB winch bar in line with my chassis and fitted recovery eyes through the bar and plate. Very strong and allows access directly from the front. Have done the same on my custom rear bar also.

As for tyres, really depends on what kind of driving you will mainly do. Do a search as there are numerous threads on this topic.

    Best of luck aye, Mick
