mine will not go more than 10kph till its warm---
I am picking my replacement maf up this morning, and 75 seconds later expect to have a fully functional V8 again.
I am trying to pin down a few faults with my D2 V8 and the closest I can get to an answer is a faulty airflow mass sensor.
Problems are high fuel consumption, poor engine response and coolant temp spikes that appear to be in range but unusual.
RAVE does have a fault-finding method for the airflow sensor but I can't make any sense of it. It seems to be saying that for fault diagnosis the engine has to be running at a minimum speed for a minimum duration for the fault code to log and thus be traced. It shows a chart of air flow versus correct voltage output to the ECU - reading a voltage is not hard, but I don't get how you are supposed to measure airflow.
Like others I've heard of, mine is not logging an airmass sensor fault. Instead, it logs a rich running (or lean running, depending on the source of codes interpretation) mixture for both banks.
I've cleaned the airflow meter with circuit baord cleaner but that did not help.
So I want to try an airflow sensor replacement, even though it seems stupid to throw money at parts without any certainty it'll fix the problem.
So far, the options are:
TR Spares $185, Intermoda (sp?) sensor not incl body or $250 for complete assy (but brands unknown)
Karcraft $337.50 +GST (OE type Bosch) or abt $220+GST for unknown brand
UK eBay has unknown brand sensors for GBP30-40 + shipping, in the US Rover Connection sells them of US$225+ shipping.
Trivett has stock of ERR7171 at $570 or MHK100800 at $657.
Both the above part number show on Microcat and I don't know what the difference is or why one is more expensive than the other. Needless to say, I'm not going with LR on this one.
Has anyone tried the cheaper options with any success?

Not an expert on MAFs but my symptoms were sluggish performance, high fuel consumption and the auto would not move up to 4th until about 80ks. Changed the MAF and everything back to normal. Sadly I didn't realise then that cleaning might have been an option, and trashed the old one. I guess you live and learn!
