    CDL on 2000 Disco2

    Hi All,

I am new to disco ownership having just purchased a 2000 Disco2 TD5 Auto.
I am in the process of adding some upgrades, namely dual battery system, snorkel, rear storage and roof racks for the boat. A mate has also suggested that I include central diff lock.
I have been checking this great site and found that this will be possible
    (transfer serial number 41Dxxxxxxx).
When checking for the CDL nipple I come noticed mine has a a shaft (appoximately 10cm in length) already attached. This in turn is connected via a cable to the high/low lever.(I think this is the case as I can't quite see. I've always been told I have a big head).
Could this be a CDL from a Disco TD1?
    Thanks in advance.

    David
Anyway I have attached a photo.

    Hi Pedro,
No it is not pinned. It looks like it is screwed onto the thread from the transfer box. Cable attaches at the top.
Now thinking it could be home made CDL actuator which locks diff when low range is engaged.

    Pedro,
    Thanks for the photo.
I aggree that leverage that far from the case will be a problem.
Will take a closer look over the weekend. Mate & I will check underneath to see what happens when low range engaged. It will probably come out.

you may not realise it now,,
but being able to use the cdl in high range is sometimes very handy,,

if I was enabling one today I'd buy the genuine kit from an '04.

And being able to use low range without the centre diff locked, e.g. moving caravans, boats around on hard surfaces or up steep driveways.

Looking at that photo David, i'd say it's a Graeme Cooper/Bruce Davis type CDL actuator, when you engage low range it activates the centre diff.

    Pedro,Steven and Baz,

Thank you all for your imput.

I want to be able to use low range without the centre diff locked. Hence I have been trying to source a genuine kit for the 04. Land Rover dealers don’t want to help. (Say it can’t be done)
Plenty of threads on this board would suggest otherwise. Triump Rover Spares in Adelaide have one $725.00 delivered. Don’t know if this is a reasonable price. Will keep chasing. I would be willing to source from overseas if price OK.

Try AMV in Melbourne, they sometimes have them from wrecked D2s, also Ritters sometimes have them they also make one too, Ashcrofts in the UK don't supply them anymore so i was told.

Land Rover don't supply them as a kit, but they will supply the parts, trouble is the lever alone is close to $700, the cable and mounting bracket is around $190.
