Funny, even though mine is quiet especially in the car, it rattles my garage windows, and I have noticed it can set off car alarms in shopping centre carparks.LOL

:D Our V8 used to rattle the old & dried caulked windows in our old house.
It was an easy telltale that SWMBO was home.
It had the centre muffler replace when the baffles collapsed in the OE muffler, it was of similar design to OE but was smaller and gave it a crispy 'chev' note but I'm sorry I don't remember the brand.
i am about to remove the rear muffler in attempt to get better note, also have a luky centre muffler to try, heard it sounds great, will have to wait and see
Will try to figure out a Youtube recording of my D2 with sports centre muffler today. Prob won't have time to get a driving shot now.
My set-up is really not that loud - my wife drove off yesterday and while the deep rumble at start-up/idle was obvious inside the house, it wasn't that noisy as she drove off down the street. I'd equate it with a HSV or FPV level of noise - more a bass tone at idle than loud thru the rev range. Still pops on overrun, though. Nice. Good for old farts like me who can't do the full V8 noise anymore but can't stand having a V8 that sounds like a vacuum cleaner.
I reckon a std P38 sounds pretty good, my D2 is only slightly more noisy than one of those.
Anyway, still highly recommend the centre muffler change in a D2 V8.
I chopped the rear silencer off... YAWN..... Nothin just a slightly uglier and pointless growl. The I got a muffler that I asked to be "A Burble" which it is. Has a nice soft rumble that you can't hear at higher revs but is kind of fun at about 2000 rpm. Keeps me off the pedal. It's a work in progress. I am trying to drown out the ACE pump!
Got it done at a performance shop in Woolloongabba! $275 and they are top people.
I went for a 2.5 single press bent system with a muffler and resonator. Sounds great and for the mean time while the cast manifold are holding in the gasses, I'll stick with them. I figured I wanted to have it sounding better, but not go too extravagant as there's a good chance it'll get a little bit beat up off road.
Got an exhaust put on mine on Thursday. 2.5 inch from the Y back. 1 straight through muffler and no rear resonator. I can barely hear it at 110 on the freeway, but it barks under load. Just the way I like it.

you need extractors!
I had a very good bloke who specialises in custom jobs do my wifes 95 D1 3.9 auto. He said he would go for a mild system that made it sound better but not loud. 3 inch system with straight throughs....arrhh....started it and new something was crazy. Drove it and it sounded like 6 litres and angry...he couldnt understand it. He said later that it was probably the sound emitted from the alloy motor. He couldnt believe how fat it was !
My wife would drive past road workers and they would be looking to see where the sound was coming from! Needless to say that apart from taking me back to 17 it was just too loud. He stuck in a relatively good flow glass packed muffler and still had to stick in a better resonater than the one he originally stuck on. Now its got a nice quiet burble and is very quiet inside - quieter than original but goes well thanks to the 3 inch pipes.
Cheers
All I wanted was a demure burble from my V8 D1, which I wasn't getting from the standard muffler. I didn't want resonance or to break windows.
I just had the centre muffler replaced with a tri-flow and now it is perfect.
