    Discreet Winch Mount on Disco2

    I was looking for a winch mounting that retained the original front bumper (did not require a bullbar) and I found one at Troutbeck. Len Smythe sent me the kit by mail, only took a couple of days and cost less than $250 all up.

    That does look good. Only concern is it looks a bit low. Has it changed your aproach angle?

    No change from standard, in fact, the factory "chin bar" remains under the winch plate!

    I to wanted a "discreete mount", but used a synthetic rope and stainless fairlead

    Beautiful job! You did a lot more wiring than I did. I could mount the solenoid box on top of the winch only because I trimmed the middle portion of the pressed steel crosspiece out. This allowed the standard leads to be run up to the battery behind the rubber flap you showed us. Well done.

    How easy is it to get to things when it is under muddy water. Where do you plug in you control lead and how do you engage or disengage the free spool.

    Can you see the cable on the drum easily to may sure that it winds on properly.

    Did you click the link and read the install page ? (I think not), ALL your questions would be answered, except the muddy water one, well if its that buried, then you going to have to get dirty yourself, or as you "should" go out with another vehicle, hopefully they would be equiped to help get you out.

    Yes you can see it on the drum, but as far as the cable "winding" on properly, well thats of no concern when your getting yourself out of a sticky situation, thats why the fairlead is there on all winches. All you do is re-spool it later if its that badly spooled on the drum.
