D2 Steering Shudder

would the collapsed engine mounts be really easy to notice though?
I had a look earlier today and the rubbers on both sides still feel fine.
Also, could this also explain the vibration experienced in the front seats and the sometime viscious shaking of the gear lever in 5th gear?

Thanks Steve. i have a s1 disco & have rebilt f axil almost got rid of steer vibration. i'll check the engine mounts now.

"new" 65 s2a i got yesterday.

When I was advised to replace the engine mounts after the 90000K servive I hopped under when at home, yeh OK really meant nothing as the mounts "looked" OK BUT after being replaced at the 100000K servive and hopping under when at home, well, much beefier rubber, at least double the size, so I guess over time they just flatten out with all that weight etc. and become ineffective in dampening engine vibes through the chassis.

So would replacing these rubbers be a difficult job? how much are these rubber generally?

D2 engine mounts are expensive, around the $300+ mark, if the mounts are shot, you should feel a vibration at idle.

LR no that they cant make a engine mount that lasts, so they put to inpection holes at the bottem of the mount, if you thru the holes, and see rubber is touching or very close to the bottem of the mount,, there stuffed,

Had this problem, buggered my mind for a while including a LR mechanic , replaced the watts link bushes and all is well :cool: worth a go, not to hard to do.

This is exactly what I went through, just re read your post. Give it a go , and replace the bolts also as they wear on the watts also. Good luck
