Steering Wheel
Hi:
I have a Discovery 2003 / I decided to replace the horn buttons and the wiper switch / after replacing the parts this happen / STEERING WHEEL NOT GOING ALL THE WAY IN / this causes the rotary coupler to make a noise /
Anyone has ever done work with the steering wheel, need some HELP, I'm trying to align averything / Do I need a special tool? I followed the instructions from a Rave CD, the workshop manual for this model.
Any suggestions, I live far from a mecanic, so I would like to fix this problem, THANKS.

Rotary coupling?
G'day.
I hope you had the wheels set straight ahead and taped the rotary coupling when you disassembled!
There's a spring-loaded plunger on the rotary coupling that fits into a recess as you replace it. It could be this that's causing you grief. Also, the pegs that operate the indicator self-cancel may be impacting as you replace the wheel. Again, having everything set up with the wheels straight ahead should negate these problems.
I'm having to replace the rotary coupling in my 300Tdi as the inner ribbon has pulled out of the plug. I suspect the breakage was caused by a wheel aligner in the past (before I owned it). Rotary couplings are tres expensive (like about $350) so I got my replacement from a US wrecker. It should arrive by post this week and then I can hopefully get this vehicle thru' a rego check (the horn didn't work so they failed it

Steering Wheel
Hi:
The wheels were set straight ahead, but I did not taped the rotary coupling when I disassembled the stering wheel / I just remenbered the position where it was located / I moved the rotary coupler a couple clicks right and left, / after everything was in place a rotated the wheel to the right, thats when I found the noise / Horn is working / WHAT SHOULD I DO / I have everything apart again / is there a way to reset the rotary coupler or do I need a new one? / the rotary coupler makes the clicking noise right and left; also theere is a black spring on a stick out of it, when I press that there is no noise /
SUGGESTIONS?
Thanks

Rotary coupling
G'day, Luis.
If you have to, you can reset the rotary coupler. I see that you have the "Rave" CD so go to:
Supplementary Restraint System and look on page 7 where the instructions are located.
Read especially about the "peg" as that's the key to getting this thing right. The horn working all of the time is unlikely to be a problem with the coupler. It's probably in the way that you set up the horn buttons and the amount of clearance between the contacts. You should look at this first.
