Mate the one in our '99 Corolla is better than the D2!
Mine bends in toward the throttle and back toward the firewall. It then 'leans' away from me at an angle of nearly 15 degrees so placing the foot on it at that angle for any length of time is uncomfortable. That is compounded by the shroud around the transmission hump jutting out in front of it so there is no room to the left of the rest at all.
I had put it all down to the size of the vehicle and a largish transmission hump. Maybe its the individual vehicle I have?![]()

Thanks for all the replies, guys.
Ricey, I find that I the I can't fit my main sole of my foot onto the footrest squarely as my foot hits the trim. Also, like you and Dale, if I push a bit hard the footrest bends inwards and becomes uncomfortable.
It seems to me the footrest needs to be closer to the floor so I can miss the trim and secured/beefed up so it doesn't bend. Thought those of you who are good at metalwork might have come up with a bracket to attach to the existing bracket (part of it will need to be cut off). I could draw it up but don't have the workshop/tools to make it.

I've always thought of a footrest as just that,,
somewhere to rest your foot,,
its just a "location" device,
though they do serve a secondary purpose in a manual vehicle when properly positioned,, they keep your left foot LEVEL with the clutch pedal which means a faster clutch application and you dont "lose" your foot under the pedals,,
If you are using it as a brace,,(are you hanging by the belts again Ricey?) dont run into anything solid

It's moments like these that the footrest gets squashed!
