    D2 Fuel Filter Warning light

Does anyone else get the occasional flash of their D2 diesel filter warning light. My one has been annoying me for years. Even changing the filter makes no difference. There is never any water if I check it. I have taken out the electric connectors and cleaned them and also taken out the sensor and cleaned it, no better. Seems to be quite random, the light will come on for a couple of seconds then go off.

    Any suggestions ?

These are known to troublesome just as you describe,

2 options really, replace the sensor itself and that will fix it for a while, how long who knows !!!

Or, just disconnect the plug, tie it up out the way and forget about it. Land Rover dealers even do this in the UK as the sensor is known to be pain in da bum.

if you change your fuel filter on regular occassions, and or even drain it off, then you have no need for the sensor anyway.

In the 2004 version Disco, LR removed the connecting lead from the sensor. Obviously, they have had enough complaints and no solution for it as well.

I usually clean the plug and sensor when i do the fuel filter, if you do this on a regular basis it won't happen.

If it does happen, it will always happen after a long trip, rainy weather, if you go through mud or dust, it's just a matter of cleaning it and it will be fine, 5 minutes, not a lot in the sceam of things and it could save you thousands, i'd rather have it there, if you remove the plud there will always be that one time when water is in the fuel and you have no way of knowing until you change your filter.

A lot of the Defender guys are putting the disco plug and sensor on, just so they have a warning, i think all the trouble the Puma Fender guys were having made them think of having one.

    Hi,

You should find the fuel filter just inside the rear drivers side wheel arch.

Does anyone know how the warning light behaves if there really is water in the fuel? Does it flash intermittently or stay on?

It will stay on. Mine has been flashing for the last 4 years. As said above, if you change the filters regularly and buy good fuel it shouldnt be a problem.
