Discovery 2 Propshaft Court Case - Help Needed

Goodluck with it mate.
As mentioned Landrover do monitor AULRO.
I had one fail,but thanks to this site was able to recognise the fault before it did any damage.Was on a camping trip,heard a light chirping sound several times whilst off-roading.When packed up and heading home the chirping got alot louder.I stopped and checked the DC joint once again,it was red hot.I removed the drive shaft locked my CDL(I have a DIY lock mechanism) and drove the 100km into Albany gently.Got greasable unis from a bearing supplier and helped a mechanic fix it.The mechanic did ring the local dealer only to be told it isnt a servicible item,the complete shaft needs replacing.
Mine went @ 220000ks approx.

Yea I know, I did look at taking tools with me but the weight was going to be a big issue on the plane an then I was going to have to lug the things all around Sydney on the trains and up to Newcastle. I had a friend lend me his garage just out of newcastle to do work in and at the end of the day I figured that I could count on my road side assistance cover. It's funny you say that about road side assist guys as that was one of the comments he made to me in justifying not helping me. Lesson learned though. $10 and a Super cheap autos would be your best freind in that case but I hear you, I'd hate to have to lug around my small canterlever box around with me to go pick up a car let alone try and fly up with the one in the workshop or the one in my shed.......which I guarentee that if something broke the tool I needed would be in one of the other toll boxes anyway lol.

I would still get roadside assistance but just insist on getting the towtruck out straight away, one of the other members on here had a similar problem with their roadside assistance due to a failed front wheel bearing.

I popped the drive flange off to check what the problem was and that then meant that they would no longer cover it even though Im a qualified mechanic.

We got it going eventually and got it home but I couldnt believe their attitude about it.

I take it out for big trips mainly for the towing so I would still have it but if Im just around town driving and not leaving the state then I can normally get a mate to get a trailer out to me or pay to get a tow.

Unfortunately mate, you've got a snowballs chance in hell...

Statutory warranty is 6 months from new, manufacturers warranty is whatever they wish and is at their discretion as to whether they wish to honour it...

So if you have an older than 6 month (you have) vehicle then its their discretion as to whether or not they fix it, regardless...

Unfortunately, for all the 'short life failures' you hear of on here, I have had 2 with DC joints over 100,000km.... Put this in context and theres probably a huge ratio of fine to fail....



This fight will cost you a lot, I'd only suggest it if the vehicle is sub 100,000km and only a couple of years old and then you *may* have a chance.

The route i have taken is small claims.

This means I can claim for up to £3k and my maximum outlay is £75 GBP.

You don't get anywhere without trying and as £75 doesn't even cover a tank of petrol anymore I aint got a huge amount to loose.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Is this thread a joke or serious? It's like saying my 2nd hand tyres are warranteed to last 80000 kilometres, and I am sueing because I only got 78000km out of them.

Has the car ever been off road?

Has the car ever been driven in water (splashing through puddles as well)?

Has the car ever been driven on salted roads?

Has the car ever been driven in the mud?

What is the time period in sealed for life? Life of the warrantee of the car?

If I were you I'd save your 75 pounds and go buy a bottle or two of something nice and anaethetising.

I would have to agree with dobbo (yeah I cant believe it either ;)), but I think this is something you might just have to wear. And they could argue that given the number of failures and the need to replace it that you should have been aware enough to replace it as preventative maintenance...i mean its not a secret or a surprise that these things fail...

But then again he could be the rainmaker.

This guy posted same questions on the Land Rover Only Forum in USA last week and got same advice from the Forum members there, good luck your wasting your time and money.
