Can you do the inverted wheel carrier without opening the door up?

Hi all - D2 - just changing tyres and want to turn the wheel carrier upside down - do I just undo the bolts on the outside and swing her around or are there steel bars inside (as well as out) that will fall away?

    Cheers

There not captive nuts on the inside, so you will need to pull the panel off to hold the nuts whilst you undo the bolts. No big deal just be prepared to replace a panel pin or two.

You'll also have to die grind away a bit of the carrier to clear the rear wiper, and drill 2 extra holes in the carrier to line up with the offcentre middle original holes.

When we did Discodan's carrier he just removed the rear wiper and then refitted it slightly further around so the resting position was clear of the carrier. Works AFAIK.

Also unless you have long arms then it is a two person job. One on either side of the door when doing up the bolts.

You will also need to redrill the centre holes in the carrer.

if you look closely there are two little circles where the holes need to go.

Thats what i did also, have to rotate the wiper arm by a few splines and works a treat, better than possibly weakening the carrier.
