    TD5 Intercooler - D2

Ok folks, I am starting to consider having to replace or have fixed the intercooler. looking through the grill at the front to the left of the fan is a hole that looks to have been caused by a small stone. Reason I noticed is when washing the car noticed oily residue on the grill so blowby is making its way out.
Anyway whats a replacement cost and what do you think cost to fit?
    or
Can i/c be repaired?, never had a car with one but assume they are made simalar to radiator?.

    Thanks
    Yorkie

Allow a day! And plan a coolant change whilst your at it...

Lots of remove and replace involved, grill etc....

If your handy with tools, just take your time..

And a hint... Replace all the hose clamps with proper worm drive clamps as you go!

    Hi,

I did a write up on the intercooler removal when I took mine out to clean it.

Its a little fiddly especially if you dont remove the viscous fan, but it will come out, and theres no need to disturb any coolant / hoses etc.

Mate i'm about too upgrade myself with one of Tombies intercoolers, I plan to fit it myself, so if you need a hand let me know, i can get my hands on a tool to remove the viscous fan, this makes the process so much easier.

When you consider the standard is nearly $2000 + fitting and the Bruce Davis one like Tombies is $1400 + fitting, Tombies is bloody brilliant value.

    baz,
looks like we might be heading for another working bee between us.
if you get yours earlier let me know when your fitting it and would be keen to come over to supervise coffee to learn and then vice versa.
will see how funds are as planning coolant change soon so to do without wasting the new stuff sounds good.
    cheers
