    odd noises I usually just put the handle end of a very large screw driver to my ear and the metal tip some where near the noise. Then repeat till it gets louder. Eventually you'll find where its coming from.

    and BTW don't laugh it works !

    Oh I know! My dad used to run a service station back in the 70's (when they actually serviced cars ) and he used to call it the "mechanic's stethoscope".

    Well pulled the fuse to be met with just the click of the glow plug relay - so it is definitely the fuel pump - or related. I'll try changing the filter etc as you suggested Baz and see if that makes any difference.
    I hope so, as I assume anything to do with the pump will be large wads of cash...

    At least on a D2 there is an access panel in the rear floor to change the pump. There isnt on a Defender so you have to drop the tank.
