    Question Steering shake at 80>100kph

    Hi Guys,
My 2003 TD5 Auto has developed a slight steering shudder at 80>100kph.
Above and below this speed, it's not noticeable.Seems worse on left hand
    bends.
    Any ideas please?

Try wheel balance first, a tyre might be out or wearing uneven, or the shockie could have either past its use by date or the rubbers are worn.

As said above, plus have a look at the steering damper, too.

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.

    steering shakes

i got a flat tyre but couldnt park safe were i was ,so drove a bit more down the road than i should have.later repaired the flat tyre than fitted it ,instantly had steering wobble between 75km and 85km only .thought odd so took the frount drivers side repaired tyre off and put on the back axle .now instantly no steering wobble any more so in my case it was the tyre ,must have dammaged the caseing or weakened the sidewall while it was flat .if stopped and changed instantly may be wouldnt have had steering problem .try that change frount to back and see what does ,worked for me. ralph

I had this issue too.. Drove me crazy...

Tyres had gone off.... Needed newies... Problem solved...

Could be as simple as a wheel weight... Suggest trying a balance and alignment first...

Rotation can be tried too (at home) for free!

I rotated my tyres recently (LR - LF & RR - RF) and then developed a vibration at +/- 80kmh - had the wheels balanced and the vibration decreased but it's still there - might have to rotate again!

    Cheers,

    Franz
