D2 Front Hub Carrier Balljoint Protective Gaiters

On my D2, the bottom front hub carrier balljoint gaiters are starting to wear out and are torn up pretty badly from sticks and rocks and stuff, and probably just from old age. Bottom line is they need replacing, as its not good to get dirt and grime into the balljoints. Has anyone done this before???, do i have to completely renew the balljoints, because they are still fine. Theres no free play on them at all, just the gaiters are worn.
If only the gaiters need replacing, is this a cheap part?

Your advice would be much appreciated
    Cheers

Funny about that, I noticed the right one on my Series2 Disco being damaged. I too am interested if anyone has gone through this and replaced the rubber gaiters.

The balljoints are the same as those on the P38A (FTC3570 and FTC3571) and the gaiters had torn on mine, too.

I doubt the gaiter is available separately. The same material is used on the tie rod ends and it fails there, too.

I had the ball joints replaced as I had the hubs coming off to replace the axle housing seals.
