Fit compresssor
Hi All,
Im getting an air locker fitted, where do you think the best place for the compressor is ??. I was thinking that there is a lot of heat under the bonnet, maybe squeeze it under the drivers seat? How hot does the unit itself get? Its the small arb compressor.
Thanks
Mark

air compressor
Hi Mark,
I have a ARB air compressor mounted on the front left inner gaurd (under the bonnet!) of my D1 although i had to reinforce it as i had a few cracking issues after driving over lots of corrigations. After using it to pump up my four tyre from 18 psi back to 40 psi the compressor is to hot to touch unless you want burns, so there are no problems with heat issues in the engine bay area as they are designed to cope with getting hot, though if you mount it under a seat i would make sure there is no carpet or trim near it, but putting it under the seat you'll be able to hear it when ever you run it and there not particularly quiet!
hope that's helpful
Cheers Andy

Under the bonnet is not a problem.
Besides the noise, another problem to consider if you put it under the seat is potential for oil leakage from the exhaust line when the locker is disengaged. They even make a mess under the bonnet.

Why not in one of those storage boxes at the sides of the back .
That's where I had an old ARB mounted in my RRC.

under drivers seat
I had mine under the drivers seat, Disco 1 300tdi. Nil issues at all. I placed a piece of rubber under it. Unless you run it all the time noise and mess should not be an issue.

I had been wondering the same thing, I was thinking about beside the chassis in the cradle where the SLS compressor would be on the air bag suspension models.
I haven't yet considered all the pros & cons though, stone shielding would be easy, maybe dust or water would be an issue, but if the suspension compressor is OK there, why not an ARB compressor?

Thanks all,
I was thinking in the back in the storage compartment area but I use these areas alot when camping.
Any way if heat does not bother it then under the bonet it goes unless " the shorter the air line the better?"

Hi Baffle this is where I mounted my ARB Compressor Behind the Fuse Box, , whilst I'm not sure about your D2 V8 arrangement under the bonnet it should give you some idea as to where you might like to mount it.

I have mine mounted in the back rear left quarter panel. Not in the storage box, but actually behind the molding just behind the rear lights. It is inside, out of the dust and I have the hose connection plumbed down and out to the rear tow hitch. I have a rubber grommet to protect it from dust. The switch to activate it is in the back too.
If you look on the inside of the rear just there is a plastic removable vent into the molding. If you remove it you will see that there is actually a lot of room back there for a compressor.
Cheers
Angus
