Stevo68, This was my old TD5, under the factory alloy roof rack (which is very flimsy but does the job)at the rear was the extended roof rails. With one extra cross bar u get the full length to carry just about anything & when not in use just looks like the factory rails.
    Cheers, hope this helps.

For a different approach, I got Rola roof rack cross bars with the 1500mm sports crossbars, as they sit much lower than Rhino. I still get into car parks. I also have the roof rails. The next plan is to add the rail mounted cross bar, so I end up with three cross bars. Rola sports bars claim 40kg a bar, whereas Rhino claim 50kg. The issue is how much weight do you want to put on the roof anyway. The 3 rail set in theroy carries 120kg, but I don't want to carry that weight

I currently carry a Viking kayak. With the 3 cross bar set up I will add the Rhino half cage + kayak, and the third option being the Rhino 760mm wide pod. So I can use the pod + cage on other trips.

You can check this stuff out on the Rhino and Rola web sites.

    Works for me.

Ahhhh... you have no idea how much i want a Safety devices roof rack like that one. You cant find them anywhere in Australia. The look so cool, and even better with the lights on them. I've even considered making my own, just have to find the time to do it.

    Hendrick,
They are a great looking rack, as said when u do find one it will cost a small fortune.

    Urban Panzer,
Good to see the sun out, or for that matter the earth washing your vehicle for you.. We could use some of that down here.

Arrrghh...the dreaded checker plate that will chaff through anything and everything that you strap down on it! How many people have learn't that lesson?

A great roofrack that looks the mutts nuts....shame about the form and function of tread plate.

    Hi guys.

I have a series 2 discovery - looking a t racks to hold a second spare and maybe a swag, to take gear out of the car. I don't really want to get one of the big expensive roof cage style racks, but would be interested in the corss bars that can be bought for the factory bars. Does anyone use thse bars? Are they strong enough to hold a tyre (steel rim) and swag? From what I can see, there are a few styles - the factory style (

    Any views?
