    A Newbie with some Questions

    Hi Guys,

I'm currently in the market for a new Land Rover and through I could pop in and ask you guys some questions regarding a Land Rover Discovery Series 2.

    2.5L TD.

I'm upgrading from a Mitsubishi Delica (was a great car) but one thing a learn't with that car is that it has a lot of problems built into it's genes. (the big one being the Injector Pump leaking).

So I was just wondering if you guys could give me some tips on what to look out for in a Discovery Series 2. (ie whats a problem that most of them get etc).

    Thanks guys.

Hey Robert, welcome to the forum.

The td5 disco does have some foibles that can bring you unstuck, but as long as you maintain and service them (plus learn a bit about them), they are pretty reliable.

Things that can go wrong inlcude, oil in the harness, studs on manifolid shearing, head warping if overheats, oil pump bolt, leaky fuel pressure regulator and seizing of the idler bearing. Most of these failures will start to manifest themselves after 100k, but have been known to appear earlier.

I love my Disco. It has an awesome driving position, good economy, suits us around town and can definitely mix it in the rough. Plus I love the look of it.

    Take the plugnge!

    Hi Robert,

I love the look and style of the D2 Td5, I could not afford a good one first time round though.

I bought a D1 92 Tdi, it has been and is an incredibly reliable and problem free vehicle.

I plow around the state forest a couple of times a week and do about 1000k's a week on the highway. No problems at all. Not as modern but comfortable and reliable with no electronics to mess up.

I can see no real reason to justify getting rid of it for a long time to come, so no regrets there.

I am thinking of a nice D2 Td5 for the wife however in the very near future. Good move joining the forum, good folks here....

    Good luck
