    But -

I think this works both ways.

AULRO isn't in it for the money, but it's the advertising dollars and subscriptions, and Inc's deep pockets and hours of toil that keep us going.

    Hmm, just like a magazine.
I am well aware of what keeps this site operational. I pay my subscription well above what I need to, I purchase merchandise and raffle tickets to help, and also do things to bring an interest to the site so we may get more advertising to pay for things as we then will have a bigger user base and exposure.

It is just unreasonable to expect a commercial entity to basically charitably advertise us when there is nothing in it for them, or possibly a conflict of interest with their paying sponsers.

On your own analogy it would be perfectly reasonable for them to ask us to pay for advertising OUR site.

We are not for profit, and there is a HUGE difference between that and a commercial interest. Most people who have only worked for wages and not run a business still can't seem to get their head around this.

The guy just works there. Should we ask everyone that states where they actually work for a contribution even though they have no say in the operation of the business.

I am all for reciprocal arrangements and creating mutual benefits, but where does someone stop being a person who works somewhere and become a member of here. All you are doing then is driving away someone who joined because he bought a land rover and wants to talk about it.

    New conditions of access

NO MEMBER OR IMMEDIATE FAMILY OF THAT MEMBER MAY BE IN ANY WAY ASSOCIATED WITH THE 4WD INDUSTRY, WORK IN ANY LAND ROVER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, DEALERSHIP, MAGAZINE, TELEVISION PROGRAM, AFTERMARKET PARTS OR PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS.

We have a few people from different mags who drive LR's and are members here, is this how we go about welcoming them? I hope not as not much of a template.......I understand the sentiment...but there are better ways to go about things.

    Welcome Boxer!

Again, no offence intended at the intentions of your post.

I dunno, Stevo. I think a certain part of it is a matter of conscience. I'd rather pass the business along to a forum member than not. I'd also like to think that if the forum member was making a significant profit due to referrals from the forum they'd put it back.

The difference here is that Boxer did mention his affiliation with the magazine. Most don't, it's not quite an AA meeting, 'Hi, my name's Simon and I'm a Landy tragic,' but not far off.

I think it is easy in this sense for a magazine. It's at the newsagent for a fixed price, you pay the money and get the mag.

AULRO is a demographic on a plate for a magazine. I suspect it's a little galling for Inc. to see someone getting free advertising on the back of his time and effort at no cost. When it is a magazine there is also that feeling that we are competing for the same dollar - AULRO members spending their money on a subscription to a mag or subscription to AULRO.

And on the top of all of that is the sheer boring work of chasing this stuff. I think AULRO is pretty relaxed about advertising and General Chat non Land Rover stuff, and it makes AULRO what it is. My wife frequents forums where you are not allowed any posts that are not core to the theme of the forum, and where you aren't allowed to mention any product by name.

    Cheers
    Simon

    Again, I dunno.

I used to run a cafe, many years ago. People would come in all the time and want to stick up ads or promotional stuff for bands or films, or whatever. Usually it was fine. I think if someone from another cafe nearby came in and wanted to put up ads I would have said no.

I think everyone is happy to have Boxer as a member, and lucky him that he gets paid to muck about with four wheel drives all day, and I'm sure we'd like to hear about it.

    Cheers
    Simon

Thanks guys, I can see all valid points and really, one you all could take on board is that when there's talk of revenue, money etc etc, I could post blantant things on forums all day long (but I won't) and it wouldn't effect my salary one bit. I guess by offering what I did it was more about people having their cars in print and on DVD to show off their hard work. I know for a fact that having my motorbike on the cover of Two Wheels magazine was a huge thrill for me

Either way, I won't push the point, I'm just happy to be here to soak up info on busted MAFs and things that aren't working quite right.

Saw a kitted out Delica in his front yard this morning

I'm happy with all that being deleted and just leaving the comments about the actual thread.
