    Question MAF sensor

    Hey guys,
I cleaned my MAF sensor unit over the weekend (had it pop up on a diagnostic thingy as reading errors).
Thought I'd give cleaning it a go first with dedicated spray cleaner before thinking of replacing it.
Whilst it runs SSSOOOOO much better now, its still a little lumpy.

Do the error codes need resetting somehow now?
Would NOT resetting them have a diverse effect on the now "cleaner" MAF sensor readings?

I appreciate it may still be a faulty MAF sensor, but hoping this might help out a bit till after the "spending spree season"!

    Cheers,

I can only comment on my previous experience with a Forester, when the MAF died on it, I tried the electrical cleaner trick, it failed... That was back in 2005 for a 2000 car.

The diagnostics were reset, but the MAF was cactus. :-(

It might run AOK for a couple of hundred K, any decent service center should be able to reset the codes and test it out.

P.S. The Subaru one wasn't cheap either, but it was a lot cheaper than a blown motor....

AFAIK motronic as in the Disco 11 does not directly read faults with the MAF but will show mixture faults showing faulty O2 sensors etc.

The faults will be in the ECU but should not effect the operation of the engine, ie it should not be in limp home mode and does not appear to be from what you say.
The faults can be cleared with a dealer's or specialists reader, and its probably a good ideea to see what faults are on there, and see if there are others.
I base this on my experience with BMW 3 series Motronic.
