This is what they run on the 4.6 NAS spec ones. The gearbox is about 20mm longer
Has anyone been able to put a 4HP24 into a V8 Petrol DiscoII? My 4HP22 failed, and I would like to replace it. I found a local low mileage 4HP24 for sale.
Let me know by sending me an email to jaacina@yahoo.com.
I want to fix this ASAP.

I thought all Disco II's had 4HP24's. I thought it was only the Disco I's that had the 4HP22's?
Happy to be corrected. I've been looking at getting a low mileage 4HP22 to stick in my broken down Disco, but low mileage ones don't seem to exist, and considering that we bought the Disco to be a loooong term proposition it's making more sense to do the full blown rebuild........

Just arrived: 2012 D4 3.0 HSE, the journey begins again ;-).
Gone: 98 Disco 300tdi Auto, and some extras
The DiscoI has the 4HP22, the DiscoII has the 4HP22EH and anything with a 4.6 has the 4HP24EH. The EH suffix just means it is an electronic/hydraulic control (ie a computer drive).

Ahhh ok. I have not seen anyone do it to a D2, so I cant say with any certainly or if there is a different mount for the 24, though the gearbox mounts are slotted slightly which may provide enough movement to get the 24 in, but if it does, then it will be very tight. Shafts you will have to see what happens with the mounting of the gearbox though it may require shafts as the slips are not that long but you may get away with it. I suspect also, but don't know that the AT hoses are will fit. Likewise with the computer control. I'm guessing, but Dave Ashcroft on here will be able to tell you more with some certainty.
Most people here put the 24 clutch packs etc into the 22 rather than swapping out to a 24, but that doesn't give you the good 1st and 2nd gear.

No they are not, i had 2 side by side and the only difference visible was the rear output, and no point to bolt the transfer selector on the top of the 24. They are the same length and have the same bolt pattern on the rear.
Oh and the hp24 torque converter is larger.

Thanks Andy. Does that mean that the 22EH runs the same pump etc as the 24EH? I wondered this as they both run M18 cooler hoses instead of the M16 that the 22 uses.
Is there anything that would prevent the 24EH bolting straight up to the TD5 in that case, except with a TD5 torque converter? The transmission setup will be different of course.

I checked and the front prop shaft from a 4HP24 equipped 4.6 NAS V8 Disco II is only about .25 inch longer than the 4HP22 of the 4.0 NAS V8 Disco II. So with a little modification of the mounts it should fit and still be able to retain the stock shafts. The only problem that I see is the fact that I modified mine to use the Disco I CDL lever. I cut a hole in the tunnel cover so I would need to replace that panel since I can't use a Disco I CDL lever on a 4HP24 transmission.
So I am going to try the 4HP24 and locate a 2004 CDL Lever.
