Thread: Warning Lights On Dash - Help Needed!

I've had an SRS light showing for 3 years, so I wouldn't panic. It was checked and I was told the system was working fine and it was just a dodgy sensor. I must get around to getting it fixed one day...

Range Rov called today saying that the fault coming up is shuttle valve switch failure, approx $1800 fix.

Reading all the different posts there seems to be a simple cheaper fix, one that I would like to persue. can the switch be bought seperately? is there a kit that can be fitted by someone with low to average technical skills?

Can anyone recommend how I go about fixing a shuttle valve switch failure myself?

    Thankyou

I don't have the answer but rather a follow up question!

Having got out of a P38A Rangie and whilst looking for a 98 or earlier Disco ended up falling over a 2001 Disco II. Trouble is it has some of the issues of the Rangie that I wanted to leave behind. Given that I do a bit of mountain work I don't want sensors given me false indications of problems as has already proved the case with the 3 amigos.

    Getting to the point now!

Has anyone got some solid informative advice about the diagnostic tools that clear these faults???

OBDII scan tools I believe they are called.

I understand that they were introduced over time with Europe joining the USA by 2001 with these tools.

Trouble is I can't get it straight if these tools will just clear the fault or will they actually tell me which sensor is causing the fault?

How far do they go? Or am I better to get a tool that will attach to a laptop and buy the connector and software.

I also have other vehicles for on road use so it would be nice to reset the service warning on these as they go off when only half the distance is covered.

I presume that this tool will also assist JayBee75 in combination with LADAS's earlier post that is self explanatory.

    cheers

Isn't that how they make you go to a dealer?

I'm sure it will be fine as the more I read the more I realise that it's not urgent.

Something I would like to try to fix myself, however I just do not have the time these days. Looks like another trip to range rov, but I am heading to HK on monday so by the time I get back and get it booked in it will be mid Jan.

Just wanted the car right if the missus has to drive it when I am away.

    Cheers

    oh yea?

    Thanks Pedro.

I have an option to get a second hand one (approx $400), but the punt is whether it has the three amego's itself. Just trying to avoid the $1800 option.

People are telling the the switch kit will not work and my repairer says the only option is the $1800 one.

How hard are they to change over? Anyone done it before? I assume all the brakes need to be bled etc......

Whilst I am but a lowly D1 owner I have friends who have D2's and I was of the opinion (and I think I read it on this forum somewhere) that the culprit of the "3 Amigos" was dirt/oil/grunge build up in a part of the wiring harness in the engine bay somewhere? Still requiring lights to be cleared but when cleaned and sealed correctly prevents further reruns of the "3 Amigos".
Is this the case or am I confused with something else?

Just me thinking out aloud but is the "3 Amigos" predominantly a diesel phenomena or do the V8's get the same gremlin???
