Read this with interest but don't know if the mind is playing tricks though

Is it right the the std flex joint on the early D2 TD5s has an internal pipe narrower that the exhausts 2.5 inch diameter???

If so if you were looking at removing the cat to increase the exhaust volume flow to change the flex joint as well?

    Cheers....

No, the earlier TD5s flex joint is better than the later flex joint, the system is 2.5 all the way from the turbo to the end pipe, if your worried about noise, just replace the centre muffler with a straight through hotdog style muffler, I know of guys that have replaced the straight pipe that they replaced the standard muffler, with a lighter more straight through muffler, Vortex mufflers are one that is used.

    So Baz,

Whats the go with suggesting putting a 'hotdog' (hold the onion) in rather that a straight through????

I did many of my V8's, I 1st pull the centre muffler out but soon realise that they sound like lazy ski boats out of water.
If you really want good sound, go the full hog, custom extractors mandrel bend if you can source it and than a full Remus exhaust.
They are tuned and slightly muffled, sound absolutely magnificient.
Nothing like a remus as far as I am concerned and most who have them around the world.
My mate even has one on his X5 diesel. Made that go better too.

Well for one it makes the car legal and 2, it is still straight through but a lot quieter, than just a straight bit of pipe

Discowhite, Tombie2 and me are doing it this way, along with a few others

Search Vortex, there should be a few post on the subject.
