Question aircon/vent on driver side dash

    Hi All,
Been a while since i've been on. Hope you all had a great Xmas break and stuff :-)

I'm wondering if there is an easy way to have my problem fixed.

It seems that when I slide the little stick thing (not quite the right term I know) from the white dot to the blue dot on the driver side of the aircon/vent I don't get ANY air at all regardless if I have the aircon on or just air. All other vents work just not the driver side.

It has worked in the past, however, now when I move the little stick thing from the blue to the white dot and vice versa, it makes a clicking noise which makes me think that maybe something has got snagged somewhere in there that the little stick thing controls switching the vent open and closed...

    anyway...

is it easy to 'pop' out the vent without having to take the dash off or is there another way of being able to fix this myself?

    I have a 01 D2

    Thanks....

    Lp

They are a pressure fit with a couple of tabs on either side. I had to replace one in my D1 and from memory you just need to slide a thin plastic blade (like a spatula) down the sides and wiggle it out.

Ok - i've got it out but ....

Ok - I managed to use one of those 'old fashioned' butter knives (the kind with the ebony handles) and it worked a treat. It was probably easier getting it back in though!

I've managed to see what the problem is too.

On the underside where you have the mechanism that controls the open/closed part of the vent there's a little lug which sticks out and slots into the hole and that little lug/pin thing is broken :-(

I've posted a photo of this below and have colour coded the areas as I have no idea what their names are:

Red - you will see a small lug/pin thing, this is the broken plastic bit that should be stuck the the underside of the green bit
Yellow - will flat nose pliers do the trick with getting the blue bit off?
Blue - Is it possible to purchase this part (within blue are) or would it be easier just gluing the broken bit back on with say superglue?

ps - double sided tape comes in very handy for sticking the foam down as well as small hands that can fit in the underside of where the fuses are... seriously not sure how folk go with 'big hands' in fiddly areas!

    Thanks...

Years ago when this happened to mine I had to get a new vent. Try Triumph Rover Spares in Adelaide for a second hand one, but check the price of the new one first as they may not be expensive being an old model now.

thanks, seems a bit extreme though to have to replace the entire thing for only a small part that comes off anyway... think I will fix it first and see how I go...

    cheers
