Disco 2 TD5 after Intercooler Hose Fitting

I recently posted about my disappointment with the performance of my Disco 2 TD5 manual.

I had several very helpful replies most of which suggested starting by looking at intercooler hoses.

Last week I replaced the intercooler hoses with silicone hoses from BAS in the UK, I must admit that I was very sceptical that it would make much, if any improvement.
Of the 3 hoses, the one that not only felt thin & soft, but was of a totally different material to the other two, was the small one at the turbo end. The other 2 were of a much more substantial material.

Well, after driving it for about 5 days I would say that it has made nearly a 'whole gear' difference pulling away from low speeds. The vehicle also feels quite lively & it is much more of a pleasure to drive.

I will now fit an EGR removal kit & oil catch tank to the breather.

Funny you should mention this, I fitted my silicon hoses on Sunday arvo and I have to say I got a better improvement from them than I did from the larger intercooler

It is a bit more responsive off the mark and seems smoother over the rev range and has improved turbo lag a bit as well.

Can't wait to get the 3" done, once this is done, I can have the chip and turbo matched to the intercooler.

Gday, I see from another thread you got the silicon hoses from the UK, is there no-one in oz that supplies them ? or was it cost related ? We use heaps of silicon hose at work on big marine diesels if they are straight lengths I might be able to use that.

They were around $70.00 cheaper from the UK, got them in 5 days too!

There aren't any straight lengths.

Just curious how many K's you blokes had done when you replaced your hoses.
I've done 142K so far.
Starting to think this is the cause of my erratic running TD5.
Runs fine until you put the boot in to it, IE: overtaking or a quick get away at the lights.
Since I started taking more notice, I would say it's worse when it's been running for awhile.( Heat in engine bay )
I'm thinking the longer the engine is running the softer those hoses get, hence a more pronounced hesitation or lack of performance.

If you need info on doing you EGR go to discovery2.co.uk the guy on that site has step by step with photos and all the tools need to do the job
