Grab a socket set and tighten up all the body mounts ..... Follow the chassis rails from the front to the rear, The rubber mounts compress with age ......


Also .... check the (2) engine mounts & the (2) gear box mounts ..... as these crack & compress

I once had what I was absolutely convinced was a stick caught under the car. It made a scratching sound every time I went through a dip and the suspension settled.

It turned out to be a universal joint on the tailshaft that had suffered the effects of driving through floodwaters and was rusty and half seized.

Your Disco may not even have those sort of uni joints so that mightn't be very helpful.

I just wanted to suggest that sometimes noises can come from strangest places and sound quite different from what you would expect.

It could be the clutch release bearing or a bearing in the gearbox considering the fair bit of towing and off road work. Get someone you can trust to try to drive off while you are under the veh [with handbrake fully applied and wheels well chocked, off course, for safety] and listen for where the sound is coming from. Have you checked the nuts on the rear drive shaft (gearbox side)?

I had a clicking noise that I attributed to the suspension and eventually found the nuts to be loose. Also got vibrations at 100kmh.

2. U-joints
3. Check ALL suspension bushes for looseness.
4. Loose body/engine mounts
