    Disco TD5 engine what year?

    Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know what year build the following engine number is from.
    10P20999A?

This motor came from the wreckers and I am going to fit it into my rig.

Any ideas what I should attend to/inspect prior to fitting?

    Many thanks Ben.

That number is earlier than the one in mine from memory so I would say <2001

I suggest you remove the sump and replace the bolt holding the sprocket to the oil pump, as the amount of loctite on the bolt is variable. Consequences are usually disastrous if the bolt comes loose.

    He's done that already .
It's from a Feb/March 1999 build D2 or Defender (same engine number prefix).

As soon as the sump is removed, the chain and sprocket will be immediatley obvious. Its the bolt in the middle of the sprocket. A new bolt comes pre-coated with Loctite and is probably the best choice. If you find the existing bolt loose its thread could be damaged and unusable. I used a new sump gasket.

The sump wont take long to remove especially with the engine out of the vehicle. Consider purchasing a copy of a workshop manual CD (RAVE) from this site, as it is very detailed and includes the electrical reference manuals too.

Graeme, I've just acquired a 2004 D2 Classic. Does that oil pump bolt problem run right through or has it been rectified on later models?

I have no idea. I replaced the one in my 2002 MY03 and it was OK, but there have been some 2003 Defenders at least that have been loose.

    TD5 oil pump bolt

Have a look at the earlier thread re.... Td5 oil Pump Bolt ... in this Discovery section.
I put up a link to a "how-to" page and some info about my bolt job.
A search on Aulro site will also give a different How-to.
Most of the info is NOT needed if you have the engine out = easy access
Be aware of the tightening sequence for the sump bolts.

    Cheers
    Bob
