Gday Steve, went thru this myself not long ago with my 2001.If you get under the car and on top of the transfer box about where the front prop shaft joins you should feel a bolt type lug sticking up with a nut on the base.If you have a cdl that will be it if theres nothing there you dont have it.You put a 10mm spanner on the nut and turn it you should hear the CDL engage.Turn on the ignition and you should have a new light on the dash showing the 4wheels and axles.(mine didnt light up straight away) so if you jack up 1 wheel and turn it till it locks the CDL will activate and the light will show.
There are threads on here with pictures etc.Hope you could understand my explanation.

Gday Steve,I felt the same when I got mine activated, only thing now is to work out what style of activator you will fit.I priced some second hand ones but with work commitment etc will have to wait till june and I will look at making my own.
