    D2 - Electrical Problems

Went for a drive today & all of the dash lights came on:
TC, ABS, HDC, SLS, SRS, M&S, Battery.

Started with battery light progressed to the rest.

Managed to limp home with motor missing which I presume was lack of fuel due to electric
    fuel pump not functioning correctly.

I had no guages, no indicators, no horn , no windows etc.

I presume it is the alternator as the battery is charging up on a battery charger at home
    (in car).

The car limped into the drive at home & then died - lucky huh?

I think it will probably be the alternator - anyone got any ideas?

What would a new or reconditioned alternator cost supplied & fitted?

    Regards

Chuck - Oh well someone had to contribute to a quiet forum!!!!

PS I stuggled hard to get up Allendale Road Hill in Research - most embarrassing as I was holding up a 100 series Landcruiser.

Exact same thing happened to me in my old 80 Series Landcruiser, and yes it was a dead Alternator.

No idea on cost for a new one but a reco'd one would be a lot cheaper.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Well funny you should mention that...my battery light went on yesterday then on the way to work this morning all my lights started to come on!!! I had no guages or anything as well!! I just managed to get to work (I work at a dealership, non LR) & we got our auto electrician out to have a look. All fixed in one day!! Some part inside buggered up, had been replaced before with a non genuine part, apparently costs about $50, so he replaced it with a genuine Denso i think its called, for about $180 plus labour.(still yet to get the bill!!) I just managed to get up the top of the hill at Wheelers Hill on Ferntree Gully Rd at 8.15am. There must be a big hill involved if this sort of thing happens

Have had this issue with my TD5. Could be alternator, which is anywhere from 3-400 to 800 depending on where u source. More likely, (i am reliably informed) is it is just the regulator within the alternator, which again depending on your model, is a small replacement part, same as landcruiser, and should not cost much more that 2-300 fitted.

Had the same issue with my alternator – quoted $700 from a new one from LR. Took it to an alternator reconditioner who said he could not fix it as it’s a sealed unit amd had the vaccum pump on the front of it. Found a second hand one but…it did not work either!!

Took them both to a non LR auto electrician to see if I could get one to work from both units…he took a look and said both have a faulty regulator but it’s a standard Denso part – he made a phone call and 5 minutes later a new part was fitted…$150 parts and labour…..the hardest part is getting the unit in and out of the vehicle.

    Been working fine ever since.

Not sure where the part came from but if you search “denso” resellers you may be able to find one.
