    D2/Td5 door lock failures

A bloke on another forum (UK) has been complaining about his door locks failing & he says they are different to the earlier D1 with the small spring problem.
Cannot be repaired only replaced, & that's what he is a bit rotten on as the 2nd one has gone in a matter of weeks.
I haven't ever noticed any posts here about this, so are they really a problem here?

    Thanks.

Yup! They are a pain in the hole.
I've replaced all four so far on a 02 model. There are a few things that go with them. I think there have been several posts on here.
Never had a prob with the rear door, which a lot of people seem to have (touch wood).

    Yes and no......

My locks has one problem since I purchased the vehicle in 2003.

The rear right passenger door lock will tend to open on the third push of the remote. I call it the extra security device as all the others open as per LR design.

I have never replaced a lock. Too scared to break off the interior door panel to get to them.

Our drivers door stopped about 2 weeks after we brought it secound hand and then soon after the rear right hand door lock stopped working.

we used the key for the drivers door after pressing the unlock button twice and then got it fixed, the rear right hand, still doesnt work because there are only two of us and rearly and more

We had problems with the car alarm going off randomly.
I traced to a faulty switch in the rear passenger side door lock mechanism.
    ( Door closed switch )
I have not replaced the lock mechanism yet, just disconnected the switch input at a connector under the dash.

on my 4.0 d2 both the passenger side locks don't open with remote. Don't auto lock when moving either. But not a bad thing, if i'm out with SWMBO, and she gets her hackles up, i can jump in and drive off with her bashing on the window

    Depends on the problem.

Door lock not popping up is one problem.

Not popping up quite enough is another.

My D1 had the 2nd problem on 3 doors, so had to unlock with the remote (disable alarm) and then by key which makes the knob bit go up all the way and the door can be opened.
This problem is caused by little round spring things.

Found a guy on ebay who sells the springs by the car, or by specific door. He also sells the clips for the door trims, all up was about $60 for 2 packs of clips and springs for all 5 doors.

Pretty easy to fix, front door was painful as the door fram has to lifted up and I don't have torgue screw bits.....

However, the end result is bloody fantastic. Now if only my cruise control would work on a regular basis...
