d2 water pump failure
replaced the water pump on my 4.0 d2. The original one was leaking through tell tail hole and using a small amount of water and the usual smell. I replaced the thermostat at the same time and flushed system as instructed on past posts. I replaced the coolant with castrol elc (not cheap) and after two weeks the water pump has failed
. It is so bad, as the water is poored into the header tank it comes staight out the water pump tell tail...without pressure. Luckily the valuable elc dumped onto the serpentine belt causing it to slip and squeal, the lights went dull and the power steering got heavy. I'm glad it was me driving as the misses may not have clicked there was a potential catastrophic problem. The hot pressurised coolant emptied out real quick. The pump i used was made by bearmach and the supplier is sending out another without hesitation which is good, but i think i'll keep it as a spare and get a genuine pump...
