Just found a set of these 245's on 16" rims to replace the 18" ones that came on the Disco, but am wondering if there are likely to be any major side effects the the gearing.Quote:

Yeah mate it will affect your gearing, but only slightly. You will notice it more with a manual (which mine is), but if you have an auto you will hardly notice at all. It will put you speedo out slighty but you learn to adjust your speed and I ran my gps for a while to check my speed. I have a Truspeed unit fitted now so it corrects my speed with the 32's on.
Running 245/65/r16s will not damage your you gearing or diffs. What will damage them is much bigger tyres, using the load pedal too much and rough terrain. I wouldn't worry about it.

Mc Disco, Your Disco has a 2inch lift according to the link, is that just a suspension lift only? BTW nice unit.
I have the same model and looking at putting on 31x9.5 r16 Simex Jungle TrekkerII for my high country trips. 2 sets wheels, with the other purely road tyres. Anyway I just wanted to check that the clearance should be ok just with a suspension lift and hopefully get away without a body lift as well. After all if I have to lift the body I may as well go the whole hog and go for 35" for off road. the Jungle Trekker's are effectively a 32" when new.

The side lugs on the ET's stick out more than the JT's and can rub on the front control arm and steering on full lock/articulation. Dont know if you would have the same issue with the JTs but given your going for the 31's it might not be a major issue. You should be fine.
