    99 D2 TD5 Windscreen Wiper Problem

    Evening folks,
Did a search but couldn't find much on this subject.
The wipers on my D2 TD5 work fine for 5-10 mins then for some reason they just stop. They will not work on any setting other than full speed. No intermittent, no normal speed.
Can I get at the internals with some contact cleaner or something?
I can get a s/hand stalk assembly with both wiper & indicator stalks. But I'm a bit gun shy of the airbag.

Do I need to remove the steering wheel to change these over & if so how difficult is it??

    TIA

    Hey mate

I have heard of this problem. Contact cleaner usually solves the problem cause it gets gummed up with dust.

Have you got RAVE? This should show you how to do it and avoid the airbag going off.

Hi, I have removed lots and lots of D2 steering wheels. Just disconnect your battery first. You will require a longish torx key to get to the screws holding on the airbag. When the airbag has been removed, be careful to unplug all te wires going into the center of the steering wheel to the rotary coupler first. When removing the steering wheel take care not to damage the rotary coupler as these are quite expensive.

On the light switch you will see a single screw. Just turn this a couple of turns (not right out) and then tap the end of the screw driver with the palm of your hand - this will then release the switch and it will slide off the steering column.
